Ross Library is currently undergoing some exciting renovations to make better use of its space.

Councillor Harry Bramer, who is soon to become Mayor of Ross-on-Wye, was shown around the libary by Jan Nesaratnam, a Senior Librarian for Herefordshire Libraries.

On Friday, May 18th, Jan showed Cllr Bramer the new Dennis Potter room, which is now a multi-purpose space with washable flooring and cupboards at the back, which hold collapsible chairs that can be accessed easily for events.

The exhibition space has also been moved from the Dennis Potter room, and will be displayed on the ramp, so that it can still be viewed if the room is in use.

She showed him work currently in progress, including an upstairs kitchen and upgrades to the current toilet facilties, which will provide better access for refreshments and water for art classes etc.

Jan said that the outdoor garden area will be transformed, and there will be metal fencing for safety.

The front desk is now installed, and is smaller and on wheels so it is mobile and can be easily moved to suit the libraries needs - and rearrange in the future.

There are also more desks for the Job Centre area, and a large cupboard behind the front desk has become a meeting room to hire.

Jan said that the space by the right of the front door is being turned into a private meeting room for Customer Services to use for their appointments. These appointments, which are often for vunerable people tackling debt worries, can now happen in a confidential space.

Cllr Bramer said he was delighted to see the ongoing work to Ross Library and is looking forward to seeing it on completion. See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now
