John Kyrle High School's brand new Sylvia Richards Music Technology Suite was formally opened on Monday December 14th, in the presence of school governors, headmaster Nigel Griffiths, Ross councillors, and local benefactor and businessman Clive Richards.

The generously equipped, purpose-built music centre has two large classrooms, four soundproof practice rooms, a recording studio and a radio sound booth, as well as a battery of musical instruments and computers that includes 36 electronic keyboards, five pianos and five drum kits.

The centre will be used for teaching music to all years at John Kyrle, but will also be made available to primary schools and adult learners from the local area.

The centre cost £250,000, a tenth of which was provided by Mr Richards. His wife Sylvia performed the opening ceremony.
