The Standard of The Light Infantry & Rifles Association of Ross-on-Wye, was consecrated at St Mary’s Parish Church on Sunday, January 14th. Lieutenant General Sir John Foley, Patron of The Association said that it was a pivotal occasion for the Association, and he thanked the Reverend Sarah Jones for helping to organise the service and to taking part in it. He also thanked Major the Reverend Edward Ward, Chaplain to the Association for his part in the service.

The purpose of the Association is to provide a platform for comradeship to former Members of D Company, which was based at Ross, and to help with their welfare. It also raises funds for military charities. Its current membership represents 80% of D Company’s original membership.

The service took place on the morning after the association’s AGM and dinner held at the Royal Hotel.

This gave members a chance to see the new standard as well as to catch up with friends and plan for the year ahead.

These plans include a barbeque and the possibility of a joint trip with the Royal British Legion to the National Arboretum.

Major Ladi Broadman is Chairman of the Association’s Executive Team, Major Robert Barnes and Bob Morris are members of the Executive Team. The Association was founded in 2015 by Colonel Bob Purvis, former President of the Ross Branch of The Royal British Legion. He was indisposed and unable to attend the service.
