Madam, People throughout Britain were ringing bells at 8.12 am this morning (Friday July 27th) to celebrate the first day of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. But standing on my doorstep in Greytree, at the allotted time ringing a small hand bell for three minutes, I could hear no other bells being rung at all.
There were reports on the radio from different parts of the country where the sound of the bells being rung was deafening and there had been great excitement, but sadly it appears not in Ross.
Perhaps some were being rung too far away for me to hear, and I would be interested to know if others in Ross were doing their bit to welcome this exciting event to Britain.
Janet Monnington, Ross
