The suriving Wellingtonia tree at Oaklands, Ross-on-Wye, does show some signs of dieback. A tree adjacent to this one was removed at the end of August due to a disease.

The grounds team leader at Herefordshire Housing visited the remaining tree on Thursday, August 31st.

A spokesman told the Ross Gazette:?“He reported that there is no need for concern of failure.”

The tree does have some small signs of dieback and so will be further assessed but it hasn’t been deemed a risk.

A number of residents have contacted the Ross Gazette to express their concerns over how quick the disease seems to be taking hold of the remaining Wellingtonia tree, and due to the close proximity to a number of houses they are hoping that the tree will be monitored closely by Herefordshire Housing, especially over the winter months, when high winds and rain are a regular occurance.
