A permanent replica of the Iron Throne from the well-known TV series, Game of Thrones, has appeared in the Forest of Dean.

The throne, which is carved from a holm oak tree, is located in Bathurst Park, Lydney.

Councillor Harry Ives told the Ross Gazette that regular health checks of the trees take place, and this oak tree was a condemned tree.

Councillor Ives said: "We were asked what we would want to do with this tree. This was originally a condemned tree, but rather than remove it we agreed to have it sculpted. We decided it was better to create a tourist feature than leave just a grounded-down stump."

He said that the Council’s intention to create a tourist attraction has so far generated a lot of interest.

Various drawings of thrones were considered before the Iron Throne replica was chosen. The team have even taken precautions to try to prevent the throne from being vandalised, and it’s flame retardant too.

The oak throne is located on the side of the park that is open 24 hours a day, and it’s free to visit and sit on.
