Golden girl Vanessa Brann enjoyed a well earned glass of champagne after carrying one of the Olympic Torches through Ross on Friday, May 25th. Vanessa, who is well known in Ross for her athletic abilities comes from a family of well known Ross residents. Her father is a fireman in Ross, her mum, Wendy, works at John Kyrle High School, grandmother Sue Kirby worked at the MEB for years and so on.
This all meant that the people of Ross came out in their hundreds and thousands to see all the Torch Bearers but most were hoping for special glimpse of Vanessa in her white and gold uniform.
They filled the strets of Ross cheering and clapping as she slowly passed by, savouring every moment.
One of the reasons Vanessa was so pleased to be chosen to carry the Torch was because she will be able to use it to help raise funds for charity.
Vanessa's Dad, Rob Brann, will have the Torch with him at the Ross Fire Station Open Day on June 2nd. Vanessa will have returned to university but, for a small donation to the Fire Fighters' Charity, people can have their picture taken with the Torch.
Vanessa is also planning to take her Torch into any local primary schools which invite her after half term. See the Ross Gazette Facebook page for more photos of day.
