THE traditional pancake races held in Ross-on-Wye town centre every year have had to be cancelled this year, due to the exceptional bad weather.
Late on Saturday evening, February 14, event organisers Ross Lions and Rotary Club of Ross said they have had a terrible decision to have to make and stated: “The weather forecast meant that we have had to cancel the pancake races in Ross town centre on Sunday, February 15 for this year.
“Thank you all for your support and understanding.”
Colin Archer, chairman of the organising committee added: “The safety of the runners and the comfort of the spectators are our priorities.
“Reluctantly we have therefore decided to abandon running the event tomorrow.I am sure you will all be disappointed, given how successful the event has been in the recent past.
“Lets hope next years event takes place in better weather.
“ I think the level of commitment towards such community events is one of the reasons Ross-on-Wye is a special place to live.”
