Forest of Dean District Council is supporting homecoming celebrations for Paralympian gold medallist Andy Lewis by suspending car parking charges in District Council owned car parks in Lydney on Saturday, September 24th.
Andy won a gold medal for Great Britain in the men’s PT2 triathlon at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games on Saturday 10 September. He will be adding the gold medal to his world and European triathlon titles.
Lydney Town Council has organised a community event to welcome Andy back to the UK and in support of this the Forest of Dean District Council will be suspending car parking charges in two of its car parks, at Newerne Street and Bream Road, Lydney.
Andy will be joined by Jack Rutter, who led Great Britain’s Paralympic cerebral palsy seven-a-side football side at the Rio games, finishing in the top six teams.
Leader of the Forest of Dean District Council, Councillor Patrick Molyneux said: “Congratulations to Andy on winning a gold medal for Great Britain in Rio. As a community we are extremely proud of his fantastic achievement.”
“Also, very well done to Jack who captained Britain’s Paralympic cerebral palsy football team to a place in the top six. This again is an outstanding achievement by one of our local lads.”
“We have made the decision to suspend car parking charges in the two District Council owned car parks all day on Saturday 24 September and we encourage residents to go along and join in with the event to welcome Andy and Jack home and celebrate their achievements.”
