UPDATE: A spokesperson for Morrisons has confirmed that the new charge will be put into motion tomorrow, Saturday, May 19th.They added: "It's £2.00 for 2.5 hours but we knock that off your shopping bill if you spend more than £5.00."Customers were telling us that they were sometimes finding it difficult to find a space. On background, there are no covenants around the car park having to be free of charge."The head office also said that there is no allocated minimum time whereby shoppers can enter Morrisons and not have to pay - including to collect Amazon parcels, use cash machines and visit the fuel station. However a Ross Gazette reporter spoke to a staff member in the Ross store this evening who stated there would be a 15 minute window to allow shoppers time to do a brief shop or visit the fuel station. We are awaiting clarification on this.-----Shoppers visiting Morrisons in Ross-on-Wye were shocked to discover signs in the car park, stating that parking charges apply.
The signs say that parking will cost £2 for 2.5 hours and the fine for failing to comply will be £85, administered by Parking Eye.
The signs say that the parking fee will be refunded in store, against a £5 minimum spend. The ticket does not need to be displayed in the vehicle.
The Ross Gazette have contacted Morrisons to ask when the charges are going to start and why they have been introduced. We have not yet had a response.
