Well Pharmacy has donated £8,189.03 to the Ross-on-Wye based charity, Marine Conservation Society (MCS), who dedicate their time and money to protecting the seas around the UK. The money was raised through the sale of 5p carrier bags within Well Pharmacies in England and Wales between January and June 2018.
The charity was chosen by Well Pharmacy employees, who voted to have their say as to where the donation went.
Mike Crossley, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at the MCS said: “We’re delighted that Well Pharmacy has chosen MCS to receive a donation from the money raised through the sale of their single-use carrier bags. All donations will be used to help us continue our work to create pollution-free and properly protected seas.”
The donation follows the introduction of the carrier bag levy, which came into effect in 2015, with the charge helping to tackle environmental factors, reduce waste and overuse.
Sophie Baldock, Engagement Manager at Well Pharmacy commented: “I am really pleased to see that the donation has been so well received. The colleagues vote allows our pharmacy teams to give back to their local communities by supporting their chosen charity, and gives customers peace of mind knowing their carrier bag purchase goes straight back to helping the environment.
“MCS do absolutely amazing work, ensuring that the seas, shores and wildlife are cared for and protected, as well as raising awareness of the issues that affect all of us.”
