Flats and shop/cafe plan for historic hotel
A renewed bid has been put forward to turn a historic town hotel and restaurant into flats and a shop or café.
Grade II-listed Raglan House on Broad Street, Ross-on-Wye, was most recently home to the six-room Hotel 17 and the Cellar Bar.
Local developer Alan Porter Ltd has applied to turn the restaurant and kitchen on the ground floor of the three storey building into a “shop/café” and one of the flats.
In place of the letting rooms on the upper two floors will be two more flats, all of which will have two bedrooms.
“This will simplify the layout, make more cohesive use of the original structure, and get rid of many relatively recent internal stud partitions,” the application says.
The frontage would remain unchanged, but a single-storey rear extension would be rebuilt.
The application appears similar to one approved in late 2019, backed by the town council, but not taken forward.
The planning officer said then that the “very minor harm” “would be demonstrably outweighed by the benefits of providing three residential units in the town centre”.
Comments on the current application, numbered 221664, can be made until August 4.
