HEREFORDSHIRE Council has granted planning permission for the change of use from a hand car wash and extension to existing premises at Overross Garage, Over Ross Street, Ross-on-Wye, to provide a Class A1 convenience store for the Co-operative Food Company.

The plans include external alterations to the building including installation of an ATM; provision of new plant; alterations to access and car park and associated works.

Councillor Jenny Hyde reported to Ross Town Council at their meeting on Monday, October 10th that the planning permission which had been granted included a condition that a zebra crossing must be installed. She said the applicants claimed they could not afford it but she had pushed for it with the planning officers.

According to the conditions published on the Herefordshire Council website the retail store shall not open for trading until such time as a zebra crossing and associated infrastructure to Over Ross Street has been provided, installed and made fully functional. This is to ensure safe pedestrian access to the store, in the interests of highway safety and promoting sustainable modes of transport and to comply with Herefordshire Core Strategy Policies SS4, MTl and SD1.
