The planning application for a Lidl store in Ross-on-Wye was withdrawn on Tuesday, October 2nd.

An application was made to Herefordshire Council on Wednesday, June 27th, 2018 for a Lidl store in Wolf Business Park.

The application requested full planning permission for the demolition of the existing Wolf Business Park buildings, and the erection of a new Lidl food store.

The Ross Gazette has contacted Lidl to ask why the application has been withdrawn but are yet to receive a response.

The owners of the Wolf Business Park in Ross-on-Wye have said that they were desperate to secure the required funding in order to redevelop the business park and secure its future. They said the capital receipt from selling part of the land to Lidl for a new food store would have been the only way they would be able to make the business park viable.

The Wolf Family, which owns the Business Park, has said that it would have used the funds from the sale of part of the estate to Lidl to pay for the development of a new modern business park on the remainder of the site.Online, there have been 16 objections from residents and 26 letters of support.Ross-on-Wye Town Council objected to the application due to concerns about highway safety and that it could be detrimental to the continuing economic viability of the town centre.Further details to follow.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
