A plea for more people prepared to come forward and help plan and deliver events for the town was made at the meeting of Ross Town Council on Monday, January 8th.
A local resident and shopkeeper, Mark Weldt said that he thought the recent festive events in Ross had been excellent but there should be a way to engage more local support. He said this would take the pressure off the small events committee at Ross Town Council or the staff.
Councillor Hannah Lerego, who was the Chair of the events committee before she resigned, which was accepted formally at this meeting. agreed. She said it is very challenging to get people to engage. She had to rely on family and friends to help. She said lots of people have lots of ideas about what they want but few are prepared to help to achieve it.
Councillor Richard Mayo said that when the Christmas lights went up he received a great deal of comments, both positive and negative. He told the meeting that one local resident decided to hold a meeting for all those who had commented on social media that they wanted better lights for next year. She thought they might come up with fundraising ideas and invited Cllr Mayo as he had been involved in the Christmas lights for some years.
Cllr Mayo said that he was the only person to turn up for the meeting besides the organiser.
Cllr Lerego’s resignation from the committee was accepted and Cllr Jane Roberts will join the committee and Cllr Caroline Bennett was elected to take over as Chair.
