The Civic Service for the Mayor of Ross, Councillor Nigel Gibbs took place on Sunday, October 8th as he promised to work for the town of Ross.

The Reverend Colin Leggate, told Cllr Gibbs and the rest of the Town Councillors who attended that the service at St Mary’s Church, that it was not about them. He said:“Today is not about you, but about what you can do for the townspeople of Ross.”

He said you will need to put in hard work to earn respect and support of the people, you will need to be creative in finding new ways of being Mayor and you will need to show love for the town to make the lives of the people better. And he added:“It is the churches job to support and encourage you.”

The Service was conducted by the Reverend Simon Tarlton, and was attended by Mayors and representatives from many of the neighbouring counties, as well as Mr Paul Deneen OBE JP DL, representing Her Majesty the Queen’s Representative for Herefordshire, The Dowager Countess of Darnley JP. He said:“Huge thanks to the Mayor of Ross-on-Wye, Cllr Nigel Gibbs, Town Councillors, the Town Clerk and her team for organising and arranging the event. Also to thank all of the representatives from local organisations including the Royal British Legion, the Police, Armed Services, and members of the community for the support given to this important annual Civic Service. He added:“The ceremony at St Mary’s Church with its wonderful music, readings and sermon was very well received by those in attendance.”
