In his report from the latest meeting of the Herefordshire Association of Local Councils (HALC), Councillor David Ravenscroft said that details were passed on of the Police spending review which is looking to save £20m.

Cllr Ravenscroft said: "While they are not looking at front line reductions, no decision has been made on police stations. But they are changing the method that they'll be working, police officers are to be issued with laptops to save them coming into the station to complete their paperwork."

Reading between the lines, Councilor Phil Cutter felt that the move to working on laptops would pose a threat to the way the town was policed in the future.

Cllr Cutter said: "We don't want, in any event, to lose a Police station in Ross. We do not want to lose the police presence."

Cllr Cutter suggested selling part of the land at the current police site, to create sheltered or affordable housing, to fund a town centre police station so that members of the public are reassured that the police are in the town.
