The General Election is less than a week away and all the political parties are urging their supporters to vote. To help those of you who live in the Hereford and South Herefordshire constituency the Ross Gazette invited all the candidates to explain why they think you should vote for them.
Green – Diana Toynbee
I am delighted to be giving South Herefordshire voters a strong Green choice again.
Our local communities are full of amazing committed people working and volunteering to protect what we care about, and as your MP I will put our quality of life at the top of the political agenda.
I’m standing for properly funded health and care services, clean energy not fracking of our countryside, investment in peace and security not nuclear weapons, and the decent public transport Herefordshire needs. I want to kick private profit out of the NHS and our schools, make education free again, and bring in a fair voting system where every vote counts.
For me this election is about not just the next five years, but the next 50. Brexit will mean thousands of laws and trade agreements being re-written, putting at risk important protections for workers and the environment. I will challenge all government plans, defending our local economy, human rights and precious natural world that are our true wealth.
While out campaigning, I’ve repeatedly heard people’s worries about cuts to local services. As your MP and a member of the opposition at Westminster, I will be able to stand up for Herefordshire better than a government minister, and do all I can to restore the services we depend on.
Herefordshire can be the cleanest, most dynamic rural economy in the UK, where everyone has the best possible quality of life. Make me your MP and I will put my heart into delivering this.Other candidatesTo read a statement from Anna Coda (Labour), click here.To read a statement from Lucy Hurds (Liberal Democrats), click here.To read a statement from Jim Kenyon (Independent), click here.To read a statement from Jesse Norman (Conservative), Click here.To read a statement from Gwyn Price (UKIP), click here.
