Councillor Nigel Gibbs was formally installed as the Mayor of Ross-on-Wye, at the annual Mayor Making ceremony on Monday, June 5th, at the Larruperz Centre.

Cllr Gibbs was previously elected as Mayor at the annual meeting of Ross Town Council, held on May 8th, and Cllr Harry Bramer was appointed as his deputy.

At the Mayor Making Ceremony, Cllr Gibbs said that after 40 years of marriage, it would come as no surprise that he was choosing his wife, Gill Gibbs, as his Mayoress.

The outgoing Mayor of Ross, Councillor David Ravenscroft, helped Cllr Gibbs put on the official Mayoral robes and presented him with his Chain of Office. While they did this, The Penyard Singers entertained the audience by singing some of their favourite songs from their recent concert: ‘A Journey Through Space.’

Cllr Gibbs said that his Mayor’s Chosen Charity is the Midlands Air Ambulance, which he said provided an essential service in a rural county such as Herefordshire. He added that a good friend, who had been involved in a serious road traffic collision, owes his life to the Air Ambulance.

Cllr Ravenscroft presented two cheques to the charities that he raised funds for during his year in office; Cllr Ravenscroft raised £3000 for SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity, and £5025 for the Friends of Ross Hospital.
