Councillor David Ravenscroft handed over his chain of office to the newly elected Mayor of Ross-on-Wye at the Council meeting on Monday, May 8th. Councillor Nigel Gibbs, who served as Deputy Mayor with Cllr Ravenscroft was elected. Councillor Caroline Utting also nominated Councillor Jane Roberts for the position.
There were two nominations for the position of Deputy Mayor, Councillor Harry Bramer and Councillor Jane Roberts. Councillor Jenny Hyde nominated Cllr Bramer, she said, “He is an experienced Town Councillor who would be an asset as Deputy Mayor.”
Cllr Roberts was nominated by Cllr Caroline Utting, she said, “Cllr Roberts has been a Town Councillor since 2007 and she has not yet served as Mayor, it would be good to have a woman in the role.” Councillor Harry Bramer was elected as Deputy Mayor.
Cllr Ravenscroft handed over his robes and chain to Cllr Gibbs, who then chaired the rest of the meeting. He announced that his chosen charity for the forthcoming year will be the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.
During the meeting the Town Clerk read a letter of resignation from Cllr Derek Bedford who has been suffering with ill health. The council voted to ask the Clerk to write to Cllr Bedford thanking him for his many years of service to the town.
