Jesse Norman, the MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire, who supported Boris Johnson in his bid to become leader of the Conservative party, has said that the Prime Minister’s move to suspend parliament should be kept ‘in perspective’.
Mr Norman said: "There has been a lot of wild language about prorogation, but it is important to keep this in perspective. Parliament was due to sit until September 12th, and may now rise a couple of days early. Overall, it might lose three-five days of sitting time between now and October 31st.”
"But Parliament is not being and cannot be sidelined. There is time enough next week for those opposed to Brexit to table a vote of no confidence, and if they have the votes, even to put through a piece of private legislation.
"There has in any case been ample opportunity for Jeremy Corbyn or other party leaders to put a motion of no confidence in the last few months, and they have not done so. Meanwhile, there is no time to delay, and the Prime Minister is working around the clock to negotiate a proper deal with the EU."
Mr Normans’s comments came after several protests in Hereford, including one on Thursday outside Mr Norman’s Hereford office.
