Councillor Hannah Lerego and Councillor Daniel Lister are currently trying to establish the ownership of two play areas in Ross-on-Wye. They hope that eventually they can be cleaned up and maintained so that local children can play safely near to where they live.
The two parks are known locally as the red and yellow parks:- the play area on Mayhill Road in North Ross and Berrysfield Place park, near Mount Pleasant.
Councillor Lister said they are quite large parks and would be ideal places for local children to be able to get outside and play. Children need safe places to run around and these need to be open.
The Councillors want to know why the wooden play items on one site were removed this summer and why the other has been left overgrown and padlocked. They have contacted Herefordshire Council, Hereford Housing and Balfour Beatty but have not yet been able to establish who owns the parks and who is responsible for them.
Councillor Lerego told the Ross Gazette,?“We are asking everybody about these parks but not getting any answers, we will keep going until we get to the bottom of it. Then we hope that someone will come forward to help with clearing them and maintaining them.”
In time the Councillors hope that the parks will be handed over to the Town Council or a Community Interest Group to run it as an open space. They hope that a local business might come forward to sponsor the site but currently they are finding that getting proper answers is a frustrating process.
