The four parliamentary candidates standing for Hereford and South Herefordshire in the forthcoming election on December 12th were at John Kyrle High School for a hsutings on Friday, November 29th to introduce themselves to members of the public and answer questions.

It was pointed out that this was not the first time the candidates had met, as not only have they attended various hustings, each had stood at previous elections.

Several candidates stressed how important it was to bring people together and if no clear majority appeared at the poll this would be even more vital.

The organiser of the event, Tim Shelly, welcomed over 100 members of the public as well as the candidates; Diana Toynbee, Green party, Anna Coda, Labour, Jesse Norman, Conservative and Lucy Hurds, Lib Dem, explained that he had organised the event at relatively short notice after Jesse Norman had contacted him to see if there could be an event in the Ross-on-Wye area.

Questions were taken from members of the audience and ranged from issues including Brexit, education, the NHS and the environment.

One question asked by a JKHS student was about the importance of trust and another question was regarding the inclusion of critical thinking as part of the school curriculum.

The evening provided a clear insight into each party’s election manifesto and the individual candidates particular areas of interest.
