A?Ross-on-Wye Town Councillor has joined the Liberal Democrats. Jo Jennings previously stood as a Centrist on the Town Council, but on Wednesday, June 29th, she announced she had joined the Liberal Democrats.
Cllr Jennings told the Ross Gazette: “I have never belonged to any political party in my life. I have chosen to join the Lib Dems on the grounds that they are pro-European.”
She explained that her decision to join the Lib Dems came after the UK?voted to leave the EU. She said:?“I do not know what the future holds, but I am, as someone who voted Conservative at the last General Election, feeling completely let down by the Conservative Party. I did not vote for Boris Johnson, and I did not vote to leave the EU.
“Although I was elected on a Conservative list, I made it quite clear, in writing, that I disagreed with their policies in terms of the Environment and that I was pro-European.”
She continued:?“I strongly believe that the outcome of this referendum is bad for our country and that people have been lied to. I am also very concerned about hard-working Eastern European parents of children who go to school with mine. Some of these children were born in our country... We MUST put them first.”
Cllr Jennings has said she will continue to work hard as a Town Councillor for the good of Ross-on-Wye.
On Tuesday, June 28th, she went around the town collecting litter. She commented:?“I am working for a community, not for ‘Ins’ or ‘Outs’. I know great people who have voted both ways in all good faith.”
