A Ross-on-Wye Town Councillor, although is not resigning, will cease to attend Council meetings for a period of six months, in protest of the Mayor’s appearance on Parking Wars, and that she was subsequently told not to discuss the issue with anyone.
Cllr Jo Jennings, speaking exclusively to the Ross Gazette, said: "To the best of my knowledge, if I fail to attend Council gatherings without a legitimate excuse for a period of six months, I will automatically be dismissed. This is what I have decided to do."
Cllr Jennings explained that if she resigns, this will come at a huge cost to the taxpayer, as a by-election will have to be held. She explained that there has already been a large cost to the taxpayer, following the Mayor’s appearance on Parking Wars. She said: "In view of the fact that [the council] is already wasting money paying valuable staff to respond to freedom of information requests, prompted by the recent and detestable events involving our Mayor, I think is smart to refrain from taking this course of action."
She added: "I am proud of what I have done (supporting the [Made in Ross] artists, supporting the library via the launch of a petition, bouncing off a gagging order email). I refuse to leave in shame."
Cllr Jennings letter to the editor will be published in full in next week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, which will come out on Wednesday, October 14th.
