Councillor Phil Cutter is delighted that things are finally moving to get new parking restrictions introduced at two busy junctions in Ross-on-Wye. Cllr Cutter told the Ross Gazette, “I have been working on this for at least 18 months, things move very slowly but at last I can see some progress.

“I have now been informed as to what Balfour Beatty intend to carry out at the Gloucester Road junctions with Smallbrook Road and Ryefield Road.”

There have been reports of larger vehicles and buses having difficulty turning into and out of Smallbrook Road due to parked vehicles opposite the junction on the south side of Gloucester Road.

It has been proposed that a No Waiting restriction (double yellow lines) and no loading restriction (kerb blips) on the south side of Gloucester Road for 13 metres. This recommendation will ensure that this short section of the road is free from any parking thereby ensuring safe turning of heavy vehicles and buses.

This proposal will result in displacement of only two car parking spaces.

Cllr Cutter said that the problem with the junction of Ryefield Road and Gloucester Road is that due to cars being allowed to park on the roadside, vehicles have to reverse back onto Gloucester Road to allow oncoming vehicles to come through.

It is proposed to extend the double yellow lines on both sides of Ryefield Road for a further ten metres so that vehicles will be able to cross when they exit or enter the road at this junction.

Cllr Cutter said he was pleased that the police and Herefordshire Council’s parking enforcement officer were in support, and Ross-on-Wye Town Council also supports the proposals.

Several residents who were at the junctions on Monday, December 4th told the Ross Gazette they are delighted that something is going to be done about the issue.
