Dear Editor,
I would like to express my thanks to those who attended the Ross-on-Wye Proms on Sunday at the Town’s Bandstand, the bands the stall holders and the audience.
The Town Council Events Committee paid for the Berry Hill Silver Band, Pandemonium Steel Pans Band and Ebbw Valley Brass to perform and all three were absolutely fantastic and the audience loved it.
Despite some very bad weather later on in the early evening, we had some brilliantly supportive audience members which made the experience all the more fun. The sight of so many Union flags and Welsh flags being waved out of car windows and in people’s hands as their umbrellas bobbed up and down in time to Ebbw Valley’s finale was brilliant.
The day’s charity collectors, Herefordshire Young Carers raised £160. I have received many positive comments about the event and would like to take this opportunity to thank our stewards. Thank you also to the Ross Lions who earlier in the summer paid for an electricity supply to go into the Bandstand. This meant I was able to light the event through the kind loan of lights from Ermin Hire in Ross and the Taylor-Davies family.
My final thanks goes to Ian Benjamin of Caffé Eleganza and Alex Lerego who spent hours putting up ropes and the lights and decorating the bandstand with Union Flags and taking it all down with me in the pouring rain.
I would like to point out also that there was no advertising budget for the event so social media and posters in town had to suffice. There are lots of photos on the ‘Bands in the Park Ross’ Facebook page.
I look forward to next week’s final concert of the season which is Ross Town Band. I do hope you and your readers will pop down and enjoy and thank you again Ross audience for making the Proms so worthwhile.
