Many people in Ross will be pleased to see that the Prospect has finally been restored to its former glory and after being closed for two years is open once again.

Especially delighted is Councillor Gordon Lucas who has been following the work since it began two years ago. Councillor Lucas said: "When work started on the wall I was told the Prospect would be returned to the people of Ross as good as it was before, I am delighted to see that they have carried out their promise."

On Friday, November 20th the wall was officially handed over to Herefordshire Council. Lee Dawson, of JJ Preece and Sons, site manager since the work started, was delighted to see the job completed.

In December 2006 the Prospect retaining wall collapsed following heavy rains. The historic wall has now been completely rebuilt using a mixture of the remaining stone and new stone sourced from a local quarry.

The work was held up for a time when the archeologist on the site discovered several items of interest. Stone foundations that date from Roman times and part of the medieval Bishop's Palace were found, and the rebuilt wall has been designed to ensure these remains are preserved.

Councillor John Stone, chairman of Herefordshire Council, said: "This project has been a huge success and the contractors have done a splendid job. This area now offers a splendid view and Prospect is a very fitting word for it."
