Madam, I can only agree heartily with the writer of last week's letter about the proposed 'New Extension at Ross Court.'

I see from a previous article on the subject that members of Ross Town Council's Planning and Development Committee see the need for a nursing home in Ross but say that care should be taken to protect all trees.

It is surprising then to find that out of some 28 trees on the site it is proposed to retain approximately eight.

Of these retained trees one is a hundred year old lime tree. lt is surely questionable whether the roots could survive the disruption caused by foundations and drainage necessary for the proposed size of building despite the recommendation to protect the root area during construction.

So, regardless of confirmation in writing from the South Hereford Council in 1995 (a copy was provided with this letter) that this proposed site is a designated open space plus a comprehensive tree preservation order, planning permission is being considered for what is at present a haven for wildlife including numerous changing bird species throughout the year.

Surely, here is an opportunity for both the Councillors and planners to act on the wishes of the many long term residents in the area, by conserving and protecting the land as originally intended, for all the people and wildlife alike thus putting right an injustice that has continued for 20 years.
