Herefordshire Council's Community Protection Team (CPT) has been out in force in Ross to catch dog foulers this week.

Enforcement officers were reviewing CCTV images to catch dog foulers in Ross on Monday, and on Tuesday morning enforcement officers were walking the streets early and issued a penalty notice to a dog walker in River View.

Enforcement Officer Keith Eyles, who covers the south of Herefordshire, met with Ross Councillors to review images of suspects caught on camera.

The Community Protection Team acts on information either passed to them from the general public or from Ross' Community Dog Wardens, and have been active in Ross in response to the dog mess problem on Brampton Hill.

Councillor Richard Mayo, who was out with the ?CPT at 6.30am on Tuesday, said: "I now appreciate how difficult it is to catch people in the act. You have to be on the spot and see them doing it to issue them a fine. It's not viable to just sit and wait."

In addition to dog fouling, Mr Eyles also chases down fly tippers and those who have dropped litter, but he stresses that the key to finding anyone who desposits anything in the streets that they shouldn't is the specifics of the information reported. Full report in this week's Gazette.
