After a lifetime of dancing and months of rehearsing punishing routines Andy O'Reilly was crowned one of Britain's best dancers on Sunday night.

Andy, who is from Ross and performed many Irish dance routines at the Larruperz Centre as a child, is part of Prodijig, the winner of Sky 1HD's Got To Dance 2012.

He won a share of £250,000 but Andy told the Ross Gazette that it was more important that the win would act as a platform for the group to develop their own show.

He said:?"It was the best feeling in the world when we knew we had won," but he added, "I think it is still sinking in."

Life has been exciting and busy for the group since they won. Prodijig members were interviewed on Sky News and several radio shows. Andy hopes to be able to take a rest and return to Ross soon but for now he is really enjoying all the publicity.

He told the Gazette:?"I have even been recognised in the street when we visited Belfast. It was really weird having people I have never met coming over to wish me luck in the final."

Andy is very grateful to everyone who voted for Prodijig. He said:?"I want to say thank you to everyone who phoned in to vote for Prodijig and have supported us throughout this competition." Andy's parents have supported his dancing ambitions since he was a small child.

He said:?"They are really proud and delighted that we have won. When Stacey Solomon carried out an interview on the show they were in the background, they also enjoyed their few minutes of fame."

Prodijig blend Irish dancing with hip-hop in their routines. Andy said:?"I am so pleased that we have renewed interest in Irish dancing. There was so much interest in it when Riverdance started, now it is time for something new and there is a real appetite for it."

The 24-year-old and the rest of the group were ecstatic when host Davina McCall announced that they were the winners following a phone vote in front of a 6,000 strong audience at the Olympia centre in London. "We are over the moon," they said.

The £250,000 cash prize is the largest ever awarded in a television talent show.

Host Davina McCall said:?"Prodijig are a unique act. All the finalists were amazing, and this was the hardest final to call, but they definitely have a huge future ahead of them and I can't wait to see what they do next."
