The children, parents, Governors and staff of Walford Primary school were joined by county representatives to say their final farewell to Steve Roberts, the headteacher, who has retired after 16 years at the school.

The children created a 'This is Your Life', style assembly which included pictures of Mr Roberts when he was young and of his rugby playing days. There was a very emotional finish, the children giving a moving, musical tribute, singing the Welsh National anthem in Welsh! Joined on stage by his wife, Kay, who also retires at the end of the term, Mr Roberts was presented with some vouchers as a token of the parents' thanks.

Joyce Thomas MBE DL said: "Christmas is a time for celebration and it is particularly important at this time to recognise the outstanding achievements of the head teacher, Steve Roberts."

Mrs Thomas was among the school governors who appointed him 16 years ago. She added:?"He is better than the best. He has been superb as head of this school. He will be greatly missed."

Dawn Boaden, Chair of Governors said: "The children said it all today - he has been a fantastic Head Teacher and will be missed by the whole school community."
