Cheryl Barnes from the Cosmic Teapot Therapies Centre in the Forest of Dean is walking from her centre at Elton Corner to Sugarloaf Mountain to raise funds for Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC).

The walk began on May 2nd and Cheryl hopes to finish by May 4th. All money raised will go towards keeping the helicopter in the air, ensuring this life-saving service continues across Gloucestershire, Bristol, Bath, North Somerset and parts of Wiltshire.

Cheryl decided to support GWAAC because of a number of people she knows have needed the service.

She said that the area is remote, yet has so many brilliant opportunities for kayaking, off-roading and climbing, and with a record number of people visiting the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean last year, the air ambulance is a vital service - for locals and tourists alike.

Cheryl said: “I can see Sugarloaf Mountain from my kitchen window and have always wanted to walk there. When I found out the GWAAC relies entirely on donations, it seemed like a good idea to do the walk to raise money for them and raise awareness of the vital work they do, as they receive no funding from the Government or National Lottery.”

GWAAC head of fundraising and communications, Emma Carter, said: “We’re so grateful to Cheryl for her generosity and support. We rely on the people we serve to help us raise the £2.6million we need each year to stay operational. The money raised will help us to provide critical care to those who need it the most – saving more lives.”
