Madam, Russell Hamilton's letter about Amey's impressive campaign to clear the litter towards Monmouth last week should interest the anthropologists — all those traffic cones, men in yellow suits, neatly parked pick-up trucks, obedient queues of fuel-wasting lorries, and all going on for so long.
In contrast, it seems the folk in Colorado Springs, on the other side of the Atlantic, have got really scared by their financial crisis. All their litter bins have been called in to stop people putting litter in so there is no need to empty them. Moreover, they have been asking folk to bring their own mowers to cut the grass in the park..... But only once a month — not every week.
We could save this country's economy a huge amount if we got rid of some of the 'jobsworths' at Health and Safety and cut the grass along our main roads at night or over the weekend.
