THE news that Hereford & Worcester Fire Authority has dropped plans to remove a fire engine at Ross-on-Wye and close Whitchurch Fire Station, has been welcomed by local firefighters, residents, Councillors and the MP.

Jesse Norman MP told the Ross Gazette he was delighted that after a year of uncertainty and a spirited campaign by local people this is the decision which has been reached. He added:"It is disappointing that one of the fire engines in Hereford has been downgraded, but I am delighted that we have retained all three fire engines in Ross and Whitchurch, and that plans to close Whitchurch Fire Station have been dropped."

Councillor Phil Cutter told the Gazette:"This is very good news for our local area. I have been in close contact with fire brigade staff for some time now giving what advice I can."They certainly deserve this outcome and better treatment as they do a great job for us.
