Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) is running taster sessions to give an insight into a potential career as a firefighter.

They are aimed at people who have no experience of the role to support the next HWFRS wholetime recruitment campaign launching in the spring.

The sessions at Malvern Fire Station offer an opportunity to have a go at some role-related activities and provide information about the many aspects of a modern firefighter’s role.

They will be on Thursday 26 January from 5.45pm until 8.45pm and on Saturday 28 January from 9.45am until 12.45pm and from 1.45pm until 4.45pm.

Firefighting isn’t just about fighting fires. As well as varied incidents such as road traffic collisions and floods, recruits could carry out a home safety visit, talk to the community about fire safety or work with Service partners to support a campaign.

Current HWFRS firefighters at each session will be happy to answer questions and offer advice.

HWFRS particularly welcomes individuals from groups that are currently under-represented in its Service, including women and people from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Although the sessions are open to all and HWFRS aims to accommodate all requests, if places do become over-subscribed then priority will be given to individuals from these groups.

To book a place, complete a form here, indicating the proposed date to attend.

The Service is committed to facilitating inclusive recruitment processes. All applicants go through the same selection processes and selection is based on performance, skills and merit.

People do not need to attend a session in order to apply for the wholetime firefighter role.
