Madam, The article in last week's Ross Gazette gave a fair reflection on what was said at last Mondays council meeting – but did not contain sufficient background as to why I raised the issue.

The reason was that in previous months – the liberal controlled council had actually voted  to 'twin' with an African village and also suggested that our carbon footprint should be reduced by 10%.

If the carbon footprint was of such concern I believe that the increased use of carbon by councillors travelling to Africa is far outweighed by any economic benefit that Ross could possible attract by this twinning.  Likewise if no travel is involved - simply internet communication - can this really be called 'twinning'.

And then we have the 10% reduction called for by certain liberal councillors – the best that they could suggest was to turn off the flood lights to the church. These floodlights I believe to be the best advert that the town is 'here and open to business.' The lights can be seen for miles around on both the M50 and A40 and I for one would totally oppose any curtailment of their use.

Twinning with Africa and turning off the church floodlights are just two of the ill advised decisions that this Liberal town council has made, when it should be addressing the serious economic and social issues that affect the town.
