THE project to develop the Skatepark area is developing and shaping up well to become a multi-use area say the people behind the scheme.
“In my opinion the project is thriving said Nigel Koch from Herefordshire Council who has responsibility of creating projects from funding from local developers.
“I understand this if people are using the tunnels to access the skatepark, especially as they are prone to flooding.
“And when this happened people clamber up the slope onto the road. We are working with the Herefordshire Council to create a better pedestrian entrance.”
West Mercia Police have pointed out that there is a problem over access to the site when it comes to pedestrians.
Other matters highlighted in the recent public consultation suggested the need for more seating, provision for wheeled sports and climbing facilities.
Mr Koch added: “The design team have been working with the data produced at the consultation process. The aim is to get many of these suggestions into the masterplan.
“The consultation also highlighted concerns over the former landfill site which operated between 1960 to 1974, which much of the Skatepark area is now located.
“The design process for the Skatepark is still being worked on, but we have made allowances for core elements that include a revised urban skatepark along with a pump track, a multi-use games court area, ideally for five-a-side football, basketball.”
Another element that came out of the consultation was a climbing area and Mr Koch stated that it was essential to keep the high value trees but pointed out that there would be a loss of trees that are currently in a poor condition.
“The skatepark will be integrated into the landscape. We are still in the technical phase. “A boring machine will be coming onto the site as part of land contamination assessment for any planning permission application.”
