Potholes claimed another victim this week when the motorbike James Allen was riding hit a pothole and was badly damaged and left him needing hospital treatment.

Mr Allan, aged 44, who has been riding motorcycles since he was 19 told the Ross Gazette he never had an accident of this magnitude before. He was travelling from Ross to his workshop in Upton Bishop at about 6pm on Thursday, March 13th. He was driving along the A40 approaching the Traveller's Rest enjoying the newly resurfaced road. He then drove along Phocle Green pitch and started travelling downhill when he realised the smooth road surface had finished and he was facing potholes and a very rough surface. He was braking all the way down but the bike hit a pothole between three metal drain covers and he lost control. The bike went sideways and he was thrown off. The bike and Mr Allan slid about 25 feet and the jacket he was wearing rode up his back exposing his skin to the road surface. Read the full report in this week's Gazette.
