Veteran of the Falklands Islands campaign, Major (Retired) Paul Moore, is riding around the UK by motorbike, visiting the gravesites of 23 men of 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment who fell during the battle for Mount Longdon on the night of June 11th, 1982.  These include the grave of Timothy Jenkins of Ross-on-Wye, who is buried at Tudorville Cemetery.

Members of Tim’s family joined members of the Royal British Legion and friends to welcome the Ride of Respect. After a short time paying their respects to Tim the riders moved on to Frome, as they intend to visit all the graves between Monday, July 1st and Friday, July 5th

Paul was joined by other veterans on this Ride of Respect, which has raised around £2000 for the South Atlantic Medal Association in order to continue their work.

The South Atlantic Medal Association (Known as SAMA 82) continues to support veterans of the Falklands campaign and the families of the fallen through practical and emotional support, including assisting veterans to visit the Falkland Islands.  These visits are a positive and constructive way for veterans to deal with mental health issues which may have been caused by their service during the Falklands war. See the full story in next week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
