Matthew Constance, Chairman of The Roaring Megs Community Choir, attended an assembly at Blackmarston School on January 24th to present a cheque for £1,300, which was the proceeds of their Christmas Carol Concert.
‘A Victorian Christmas’ was the name of the Charity Carol Concert given by The Roaring Megs Choir, together with some very talented pupils from Goodrich Primary School, in December last year. It is the second time that the school children have joined the choir for this Christmas event and they hope it will be an annual occurrence.
The concert was in aid of Blackmarston School in Hereford which is trying to raise money for a specially adapted mini bus for the children, to enable them to get out and about. It was extremely well attended and it had a true festive community feel to it.
The choir regularly performs in the area always donating any money raised to a local charity. In past years money has been raised for Hope, St Michael’s Hospice and Ross Community Hospital. The non-auditioning choir was formed in 2011 and is directed by George Banks-Martin. It meets every Monday 8pm in Goodrich Village Hall and has sung an eclectic mix of music since then.
Their next concert is to be held together with The Phoenix Singers in St Mary’s Church, Ross-on-Wye on 24th February at 7.30pm. It is the second time that both choirs have sung together in Ross. This concert is to be part of St Mary’s Open Weekend. Money raised from this will go to the Ross-on-Wye Community Hospital.
