Madam, ln response to Mrs Punn's letter in last week's Gazette regarding the playground at the end of Roman Way and the complaint of 'one lady'.

The facility is a fantastic addition to the area and children of all ages will gain a great deal of pleasure from using it, and what better way to get them outdoors.

I believe her remarks nonetheless to be naive with an element of 'not in my backyard!' Unfortunately any well meant facility will by the nature of today's society attract a small percentage of unwelcome attention by a minority.

I have witnessed older youths hanging around the area, using the play equipment, smoking and swearing, I certainly would not allow my grandchildren to play there unsupervised.

Mrs Punn is right to be concerned that resiting the climbing frame would both cost us the tax payer, and cause further disruption at a time when local children could be making use of the facility. The person responsible for the design however, should have considered the impact upon local residents. It is not acceptable that people are now able to look into the windows of the houses in Beech Close or any where else for that matter. I wonder how Mrs Punn would react if the climbing frame was resited outside her own property and these older youths were able to look through her windows?
