LOCAL CAMPAIGNERS have won a resounding victory against a major mobile phone company, thereby ending a long and passionate struggle to prevent a phone mast being set up just yards from a children's playground.

Vodafone UK Ltd applied for permission to erect a ten-metre mast at the junction of Fernbank Road and Eastfield road in 2009. The company withdrew that application, but filed a new proposal for a 15-metre mast last year. Read the full report in this week's Gazette.
