Ross 1st XI were on home turf against Gloucester City B at the weekend and kept their unbeaten record winning 5 - 2.
The opposition took the first push back, but Ross, expecting a tough game, sprung into action on the pitch, instantly taking possession. Attackers, Adrian Williams and Phil Evans worked furiously in the opening stages, enabling Williams to open up his 21 guns at goal slamming the ball into the net.
Gloucester retaliated, pressing the Ross defenders, Dave Skyrme, Jack Wilkinson, Rich Jennison, Brian Clare and Luke Ward, who remained strong, protecting their goal. With tensions running high to keep the lead the midfielders, Tom Walton, Sam Warner, Matt Saunders, Kristian Franklin and Nick Clarke worked the ball up the pitch advancing on the Gloucester 'D'. They got the ball to Williams who sent another screamer into the net.
Ross had a couple more attempts on the Gloucester City B goal which either went wide or were saved. The half time whistle blew and the home side knew that it still wasn't over they had to keep fighting and hold on to the lead.
Ross started the second half badly and allowed Gloucester City B to score. Taking this as a warning, Phil Evans, who was feeling slightly redundant and wanted a goal, picked up his pace and stormed forward with the ball towards the Gloucester City keeper. Taking a fantastic strike, he sent the ball whistling into the goal. Ross 'keeper, Andy Ridgway, now had to protect the goal from short corners from Gloucester.
Within minutes, Ross were back in control getting a short corner for themselves, Walton flicked the ball past the 'keeper into the net. With the clock ticking, Gloucester took the centre ball, but the Ross midfield took it away from them, passing it to Walton in the 'D' for him to claim his second goal of the match. Gloucester managed to get another short corner in the dying seconds of the game and grabbed another goal. The final whistle blew and Ross celebrated a 5 - 2 victory.
Jack Wilkinson was awarded South Hereford Motorcaravan Man of the Match for his consistent work in defence, stopping attacks and thwarting many shots on goal. The team is grateful to the umpires.
