Jenny Newman, organist at St Maughans Church, has been awarded the renowned Archbishop of Wales’ Award in Church Music.

The Archbishop, the Very Reverend Cherry Vann, who is also the Bishop of Monmouth, officiated at the ceremony at St Woolos’ Cathedral on 19 October during a special evensong service. Several of Jenny’s family and friends attended and there was a splendid tea to follow.

She hails from Ross-on-Wye where she was known as Jenny Bevan of Park Farm, but made her home in St Maughans when she married Martin Newman,

Jenny’s citation reads ‘In appreciation of your long service playing the organ in St Maughans and beyond, playing in over 70 churches, wherever you have been called on to do so, for over 50 years’
