2020 will prove to be a busy year for Ross-on-Wye Bowling Club with them celebrating their centenary year.

Formed in 1920, the club is one of the largest in Herefordshire with over 100 members, including 2019 Two Woods National Champion Shaun Jones, regularly taking to the immaculately-kept green on Old Maid’s Walk.

The club contains a number of dedicated members including Club Secretary Glyn Williams (whose daughter Kate Williams represents England Ladies in Short-Mat bowling), Men’s Club captain Roger Gwynne and his wife, Ladies’ Chairwoman Marcia Gwynne, who all help out to keep the social club up running and thriving.

The Bowling season may not begin to mid-April but there are numerous other sports and activities to enjoy at the club including short-mat bowling, skittles and the increasingly popular sport of Petanque.

As part of the club’s centenary celebrations a number of special matches will be played at the club in 2020 including matches against the England Bowls team (led by the England President), a Doubles Rake competition against Worcestershire along with County Championship matches against neighbouring counties Wiltshire and Somerset.
