THERE has been a huge public reaction and support following the town council’s pledge to revive Ross Carnival in August this year.

For its first revived outing the carnival will feature walking or non-motorised entries and those that have been keen to join the parade are now invited to sign up, free of charge.

Grants of up to £100 are available from Ross-on-Wye Town Council available to help groups create costumes and decorate non-motorised vehicles such as bicycles, roller skates, skateboards, push scooters or wheelchairs.

The parade route will be an approximately 1.5km walk from Station Approach through the town, before entering Rope Walk as the carnival site.

Traders and local businesses are also welcomed to apply for a pitch, with a standard pitch available at only £30 + VAT.

Application forms are available to download from the Town Council’s website or can be requested by emailing [email protected] and must be returned no later than Monday, June 1.

Due to the expected high demand and limited space, an application does not guarantee a pitch. All pitch and parade grant applications will review by the Carnival working group who will try to ensure fairness on selection.

The carnival’s last outing was in 2019, and it didn’t return during the covid pandemic lockdown of 2020 or the ongoing restrictions the following year.

The decision for Ross Town Council to take on the carnival has been supported by Dawley’s, JEH Laundry Services and Dominos, who have been confirmed as main sponsors of the 2026 Carnival.

Ian, the branch manager of Ross’s Dominos, said: “We’ve seen first-hand the positive impact the Carnival has at bringing together residents, local businesses, and visitors in celebration of the town.

“We’re proud to support an event that showcases local talent and tradition. Support from the public makes the Carnival and other community events possible.”
