An annual 10k charity run in Ross-on-Wye raised £3,500 for the Acorns Children’s Hospice. The run, which normally occurs in the first week of September, involves all terrain, from hills to riverbanks and fields.
Over the ten years since the event began as a means of raising money for the Hospice by a group called Ross-on-Wye for Acorns, it has developed into a popular addition to the running calendar, with a 5k, a fun run and a canicross also attracting dozens of entrants.
Over the years it has raised thousands of pounds.
The event is sponsored by Walford Timber so all entry fees are donated to the Hospice, along with the money raised from the raffle and refreshments.
The Chairman of the group, Garry Davies, hopes that there will be a half marathon in the future, which will attract even more runners.
He told the Gazette: “Walford’s 10k has come a long way, with the first event being timed with stop watches, to the current chip timing system.
The group is really grateful to the support they receive from other local businesses as well as the Community first Responders.
The Mayor of Ross also attends every year to start the race and present the prizes.
