The Ross-on-Wye Community Litter Clean-Up Crew are celebrating the news that the litter drop of points in Ross, which were introduced for the Great Herefordshire Spring Clean month, will be staying permanently.

Wendy Salter, who pioneers the group, said: “We had five litter drop off points in Ross during the month of the Great Herefordshire Spring Clean. I have today been told that as they have been used so well, they will be staying. Only Ross and Leominster have this facility now.”

The drop off points are only for the purple bags that are used to collect litter. The drop off points are at: Wilton Bridge lay-by, by the Fernbank playground in Tudorville, in Hildersley near the end of Town Trail, Ledbury Road outside John Kyrle High School and Dean Hill Park.

A Herefordshire Council spokesperson told the Ross Gazette: “Drop off points for litter picking collection by Balfour Beatty Living Places were agreed with local groups ahead of the Great Herefordshire Spring Clean. The activity of the Ross Group was so successful that drop off points along routes we pass on a frequent basis have been maintained at their request. This is also the case in Leominster.

“We monitor these points, to ensure that they do not attract fly-tipping, but are happy to continue collections from them while the group remains active. We keep this under review in discussion with the group.”
