Ross Junior Colts under 11s began 2009 with a rewarding victory against Leominster Lions, finding some form and good fortune at long last.

The sodden pitch had to be remarked because of the overnight rain, but the match was played with resolve and spirit from both sides.

Ross attacked but the Leominster defence was very tough to break down. Eventually, Leominster broke through the Ross defence and took the lead about 15 minutes into the game.

Ross swiftly followed up with another attack and equalized with good link up work resulting in a goal for Harry B.

The lead was doubled for Ross with a good follow-up shot which came as a result of a stop by the goal keeper. Harry B then turned provider for the third goal for Ross, nicely tapped in by Rob just before half time.

As is often the case, Shane kept the defence in order and made a couple of valuable saves. His work allowed Ross to create another productive attack with Becky and James, and moved the score on to 4 - 1 to Ross.

Unfortunately, a couple of defensive errors resulted in Leominster finding space, and they showed great determination, putting away two goals in quick succession.

This led to a nail-biting last five minutes, but Ross just held on for a good 4 - 3 victory.
